Part 1: Mooning

Soooo… back in 2005 there had been several acts of piracy on the high seas near Somalia. This put the entire maritime world on high alert. However, as Jammers, we never feared pirates as we were confident that we were just too poor to attract them.

We were oddly docked in Roseau, Dominica instead of on the hook. There were several Foo-Foos (Windjammer slang for mega cruise ships) full of plastic people in port that day as well.

17:30-ish came and it was SWIZZLE TIME! We were all chatting, eating, drinking and having fun. One of the Foo-Foos began to quietly disembark, going alongside us. As it began to pass nearby, a few of us noticed and went to the rail to partake in the traditional MOONING PARTY, as showcased in the header image above.

At this point Captain Julian, who had been below decks working on something, arrived top-deck. He was in shock to see what was going on in his absence. "WHERE IS MY CREW?" he barked!

"HOW DID YOU LET THIS HAPPEN? WHERE’S THE CANNON?"

Due to the existing security state, the crew was definitely not expecting this! They dutifully jumped into action, mounted the cannon and fired off the 1st shot. The police escorting the harbor pilot immediately came about. As the 2nd shot went off, with their sirens blaring they hit us with the flashing red and blue lights. As the came alongside, they used the bullhorns to demand that we cease and desist! Naturally, the crew instantly stopped.

Julian yelled back, “KEEP FIRING!”

The crew responded, “But Sir, the HARBOR POLICE!”

Louder, so the police now idling alongside could also hear, “KEEP FIRING! I KNOW ALL THEIR MOTHERS!” The harbor police turned off their lights and moved off as we jubilantly proceeded to fire 3 more shots at the cowards sailing away.

Part 2: Jammer Bingo Tales

In a recent round of Jammer Bingo, a game played bi-monthly on The Windjammer Way's Facebook page, the categories went as such:

This sparked a few stories from my memory that I would love to share here.

Firstly, I have had the winning crab TWICE on my last cruises. I found the key to winning the crab races is to promise to donate all proceeds to the Mayreau school and let karma do the rest.

Once I sailed on a back to back with Captain Casey. The 1st week I got a cold that deteriorated into severe laryngitis. I spent the week in complete silence but got relief on Virgin Gorda for the Minnesotan doctor there.

The following week they had a raffle for charity and the grand prize was a hardbound copy of “The Barefoot Pirate”. My ticket won, and Jeff the Dive mate said it was karma for the previous week’s disaster. It presently has been signed by: Captain Casey, Captain Neil, Captain Matt, and Commodore Stuart.

A filled a doubloon card???? That’s easy!

You should have asked for doubloon STORIES!

1) I began by getting 5 before I found out they explode when wet. SO I got a waterproof carrier which came out of my pocket when swimming off the side of the ship. SO I found out that Mashup would hold your signed doubloon behind the bar

2) I once was grateful to Wendy from the home office and wanted to give her one right after we boarded. I put one in her hand thanking her, but she kept her hand open saying she was happy to do it and I didn’t owe her anything and while still holding out her open hand. It blew overboard.

3) I always brought a partial Doubloon home as motivation “FORCING” me to come back to use the last few spots.

4) Unfortunately, at home I discovered that the Maytag twins would EAT doubloons. This was 2 full doubloons! (Sorry for the low quality image)

5) Another time I went swimming with 1 one in my pocket that look like these. As a joke, I brought the remains back to show Mashup what I had done. He took them and meticulously rehydrated, reassembled and USED it!

6) Just prior to the demise of WBC, I had serious Jammer friends who bought 25 doubloons to be ready for UPCOMING trips. The following year, WBC closed, so they became worthless. As a joke, they sent me a Christmas card with 5 doubloons in it. The gift made me sadly laugh, but I kept them as mementos. 5 years later when the Mandalay came back out, I brought a few with me on my 1st trip with the new company. I was sure they wouldn’t take them but thought I would have some fun with Mashup. I was pleasantly shocked that he DID take it at half value!
